How does Galactolipid (GOPO®) work?
As a natural anti- inflammatory, GOPO® may discourage large numbers of white blood cells from accumulating in the joint to break the vicious cycle of joint inflammation and alleviate pain.
Some white blood cells in the body contain granulocytes which enable them to ‘clean’ an inflamed OA joint by destroying the bacteria in it. Too many of these white blood cells actually wear down tissue cartilage.
In large numbers they can also produce chemical enzymes and toxic free-radicals which cause even more tissue damage. Accumulation of the white blood cells combined with the release of toxic free-radicals causes joint pain and inflammation. The more inflamed a joint becomes, the more the white blood cells are attracted to it –a painful cycle.
A brief history of GOPO®
In the early 1980's, a Danish Osteoarthritis sufferer, Erik 'Farmer' Hansen, dissatisfied with other forms of therapy, was recommended to try rose hip marmalade. Highly impressed with the symptomatic relief, Hansen began small scale production and distribution of dried rosehip powder - and letters of appreciation from thousands of satisfied customers soon followed. In 1995, Hansen's son was able to deliver some 5000 letters of recommendation to Dr Kaj Winther, an inflammation specialist, who instigated clinical trials. In vitro studies brought impressive results and clinical trials support the high effectiveness of the preparation.
