History of Rose-Hip Vital
Hyben Vital ApS, the farming and manufacturing company for Rose-Hip Vital Australia, is a family-owned company based on the Danish Island of Langeland. Since the early 1980s, it has specialised in manufacturing products from rosehip.
The Island of Langeland, some 50 km from Hov at its northern tip to Dovnsklint in the south and 3-9 km wide, it is a total of 285km2. It is situated to the southeast of Funned in the Great Belt. The island can be reached by car or ship. From Svendborg on Funen a huge bridge, built in 1967, leads to the island of Tåsinge and from the southern side of this island a causeway and a bridge (1962) via the little island of Siø form a link with Langeland.
In the early 1980's, a Danish Osteoarthritis sufferer, Erik 'Farmer' Hansen, dissatisfied with other forms of therapy, was recommended to try rosehip marmalade. Highly impressed with the symptomatic relief, Farmer Hansen began small scale production and distribution of dried rosehip powder - and letters of appreciation from thousands of satisfied customers soon followed.
What started on a few acres in the early 1980’s has grown into over 200 hectares with some 40 professional farmers in Denmark and Sweden growing rose-hip full-time to keep up with the demand.
A highly specialised machine imported from Italy delivers a unique planting process by laying down plastic sheeting to insert young plants into the ground at precise intervals. No pesticides or fertilizers are used as this method ensures weeds are never a problem. Once planted, nature does all the amazing work with no artificial interference.
Plants are left to mature for 3 to 4 years before harvesting. Not only does this give plants time to produce the best quality fruits, it also allows their amazing root system to dive deep into the ground (well below the ploughing level) where they can draw precious trace minerals from soil that has not been depleted by modern agricultural practices.
In 1995, Hansen's son was able to deliver some of the 5000 letters of recommendation his father received to an inflammation specialist based at Fredricksberg Hospital, University of Copenhagen in Denmark, who upon reviewing the feedback decided there may be validity in instigating clinical trials to assess at a formal scientific level, the validity of the reported success, and so, in vitro studies were instigated, bringing impressive results, supporting the high effectiveness of the rosehip preparation.
